University of Jammu to Conduct Cow Science Exam on Feb 25
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked universities throughout the nation to “encourage” their students to participate in the ‘Kamdhenu Gau Vigyan Prachar-Prasar Examination’. It is a national-level exam which will test people’s knowledge of ‘gau vigyan’ or ‘cow science’.
The commission has asked the Universities to widely disseminate information regarding the exam. The examination is scheduled to be conducted online on 25 February. Primary, secondary and senior secondary schools, and even college students will be able to take this exam. Anyone from the general public can also take this exam. It will be an hour-long and held in 12 regional languages, besides English.
Rajnish Jain, UGC Secretary, sent a notice to all vice-chancellors of universities to give “wide publicity to this initiative”. The notice reads that Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog (RKA), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, established in February 2019, has been working to inform people on economic, scientific, environmental, health, agriculture and spiritual relevance of indigenous cow in the country.
Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog has scheduled to conduct an All India On-Line ‘Kamdhenu Gau Vigyan Prachar- Prasar Examination’ on 25th February 2021 for students of primary, secondary & senior secondary schools/ colleges/ universities and for all citizens. UGC Secretary also requested in the notice to publicize this initiative and encourage students to enroll/ register for this examination.
Everyone who participates in this examination will be provided appreciation certificates. RKA chief Vallabhbhai Kathiria had announced the exams in January. He said that this exam is needed because there is a need for awareness regarding scientific qualities of cows. He said that Gau mata is revered in India, but the masses should be educated about its qualities as there is a lack of information about it.
He had added that the exam will make Indians aware of the “unexplored potential and business opportunities a cow can offer, even after it stops giving milk” and will serve as the information exam.
He had added that cows’ waste products like cow dung and cow urine, which are cheap and abundantly available, are biodegradable and environment-friendly. So, these products can be used by cow entrepreneurs to make cow-rearing sustainable. It will also contribute to economic growth of the country.
