NIT Srinagar Student Comes Out with "Kaeshir Dictionary' App
A dedicated final year student of NIT Srinagar has developed a great app providing ease of access to the Kashmiri language for any English knowing person. Izan Majeed Mir, a meritorious student pursuing his B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, took an endeavour to put his skills to use. He was thinking about building something that would be of benefit for the common populace.

The strenuous efforts and extensive research henceforth condensed in the form of this simple and elegant app by the name “Kaeshir Dictionary”. The app is easily available on the Play Store. With an eye-pleasing outlook, an initial version of the app has been published with about 300 words.

At the present stage, the app is able to search in English only. Izan is working on incorporating the Kashmiri search as well. The app offers the Kashmiri equivalent of the searched word in both Arabic and Roman scripts along with example sentences in both English and Kashmiri for a better understanding. The app also offers several colour themes for the user to choose as per taste.

Documenting a whole language is a colossal task and the developer takes note of this fact. It is not possible for a single person to pen down each and every word and hence an option has been provided in the app where any user can submit words he/she finds missing. It is hoped that this app will provide a bridge in bringing people closer to the understanding of languages on both sides.

It will also be of great benefit to the majority of the Kashmiri people who are well versed with their mother tongue but cannot read or write the same. Though this project is still in infancy regarding the data, with an effort from both the developer and the user sides, we surely see a wonderful thing in making.
