Saudi Arabia declares Support for Independent Palestinian State

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry also expressed its support for political solutions in Syria, Libya and Sudan.

Saudi Arabia has declared that it backs all efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian cause and supports an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 border with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.

Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Wednesday said on Twitter that the kingdom supports political solutions in Syria, Libya and Sudan.

Disputed deal

The United Arab Emirates and Israel agreed on August 13 to normalise ties in a watershed US-brokered deal under which the Jewish state has suspended annexation plans.

Palestinians, however, have condemned it as a "betrayal" of their cause.

Saudi Arabia opened up its airspace to Israel-UAE flights after the normalisation deal, but has said it will not follow the United Arab Emirates until the Jewish state has signed an internationally recognised peace accord with Palestine.
