No Contact established with militants after initial standoff

Srinagar: Militants, hidden in orchards, fired at Indian government forces during a search operation in Kawoosa area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district. Search operation is underway. No contact has been established with militants after initial standoff from last several hours. Mobile Internet working in the district. More details awaited. 

Earlier a gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Kawoosa Khalisa area o in Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Monday.

According to the reports, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Kawoosa Khalisa.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed to GNS the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants. As per the sources, two to three militants were believed to be trapped.
