No official vehicle for Kashmir University staff

Kashmir University1Kashmir university officials will no longer be able to enjoy free rides on the institution’s vehicles.

The official vehicles that were often used by the family members of the officials have been put up for auction and the money will be used for research projects.

A fleet of 40 vehicles that were used by the heads of almost all the departments, deputy registrars, assistant registrars, controllers, deputy controllers and other officials have been withdrawn.

Only the vice- chancellor, registrar, dean, academics, dean of students welfare, controller and the chief proctor will retain the vehicles.

Maintenance and fuel charges of the vehicles were causing a financial burden on the university exchequer forcing the vice-chancellor of the university to take this step.

“ I have reduced fleet of vehicles.

Only those people, entitled to official vehicles, will use them,” vice- chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad said.

“ We are going by the rules as to how to dispose of the vehicles, many of which are new. We will approach the government and see what should be done with these vehicles,” Talat said.

The move has not gone well with some officials of the university, who are bringing recommendations from ministers for retaining their official vehicles. (Mail Today)
